
The Ottawa Coalition for a People's Budget is a broad coalition of organizations from across the City that advocate for social, environmental and economic justice for all residents.
These organizations collectively recognize that the way money is spent in the City needs to change.
Through the coalition, organizations have come together to advocate for a City Budget that upholds a core focus on the people and communities of Ottawa.
2025 Coalition Members
Free Transit Ottawa is made up of environmental and social justice activists who share a common goal of a more equitable and sustainable future for all. We see public transit as having a crucial role in combating climate change, and promoting social justice in Ottawa and around the world.
Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW) works collaboratively with members and stakeholders in accordance with feminist, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, LGBTQ+ positive and pro-choice principles. They recognize the intersectionality and interlocking of oppressions and seek to address these realities in our work. They are committed to the struggle for social justice for all individuals who are marginalized and oppressed, and to advancing the cause of decolonization, reproductive rights, and disability, queer and trans justice.
City for All Women Initiative (CAWI) is a unique collaboration of women from diverse communities, organizations, and academia working with municipal decision makers to create a more inclusive city and advance gender equality.
CAFES Ottawa (Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability) is is a network of local environmental and climate leaders in the city of Ottawa. CAFES has been working since 2010 to help community associations in Ottawa share ideas and achieve common environmental goals by uniting our voices.
Ottawa Transit Riders is a non-partisan, membership-based, advocacy group, working to make Ottawa’s transit system more affordable, reliable, accessible, and safe for users. Ottawa Transit Riders believes that a robust transit system is at the heart of the solutions our City Council can implement in response to the climate crisis we are facing.
Horizon Ottawa is a municipal-focused grassroots organization dedicated to creating a city that genuinely works for everyone. Horizon Ottawa envisions a municipal government committed to dismantling all forms of oppression, including inequity based on gender, race, religion, sexuality, ability and economic circumstance, while supporting true and meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
Ottawa ACORN is a multi-issue, membership-based community union of low- and moderate-income people. We believe that social and economic justice can best be achieved by building community power for change. Each member has a vote, and only members speak for the organization and have the authority to set the policy and determine the tactics of each group. They have 32,000 members across the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
CAMS (Coalition Against More Surveillance) is a group of Ottawa residents, activists, and scholars who are very concerned about the potential use of video surveillance cameras by the City of Ottawa to monitor areas of the city, such as the ByWard Market and the new LRT stations (and potentially for other heavily policed areas like Overbrook, Jasmine Crescent, Caldwell Avenue, and Montreal Road).
The 613-819 Black Hub regularly brings people of African descent in Ottawa-Gatineau together to coordinate volunteer-led efforts to address anti-Black racism through systemic change primarily in education, justice, employment, business and politics. Their core values are Respect, integrity, leadership, responsibility, equity, inclusiveness, truthfulness, selflessness, education, bilingualism, constructive criticism, transparency, community-focused.
Bike Ottawa is a not-for-profit volunteer-based advocacy group. We believe riding a bike in Ottawa should be a fun, safe, and easy choice for all ages and abilities. We are committed to advocating for a vibrant and equitable Ottawa where active transportation plays an important role in year-round mobility.
Ecology Ottawa is a not-for-profit, grassroots and volunteer-driven organization.
We believe that Ottawa residents are concerned about issues such as climate change, pollution and waste, and that they want sustainable communities where clean energy, air, and water, public transit, active transportation and greenspace protection take priority. We provide residents with the information and tools needed to understand local environmental issues and promote environmental leadership at all levels impacting the City of Ottawa.
Just Food is a grassroots, non-profit organization that includes staff, volunteers, community partners, members and funders.
All projects are community-based. We seek direction from our broad community partners. We solicit feedback through our project advisory/ steering committees and through the monthly newsletter. All members are invited to meet formally once a year and provide feedback into the work of Just Food. Overall direction comes from the Board, with staff input.
